It all begins with a material softened by steam and then bent by hand. Founded in 1942 by Ankjær Andreasen, Sika-Design built its language around solid rattan and the possibilities it offers: continuous lines, enveloping backrests, airy structures and visible weaving. The Danish family business, now linked to the third Andreasen generation, sustains this heritage without freezing it in time.

Three interpretations of a living heritage

Creations from the Sika archives of the 1950s and 1960s form the first chapter. The Renoir hanging chair, designed in 1956 and still in the catalogue, is an eloquent example. A second chapter brings together models associated with designers such as Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel or Franco Albini: the egg chair, pouf, sofa and bistro seat show how rattan can move from organic design to modernism. Finally, the ranges inspired by French cafés introduce a lighter look around the table.

Indoors, under cover or truly outdoors

The intended use depends on the material. Natural rattan, worked by artisans, is primarily suitable for indoor use or a covered veranda, according to the brand’s recommendations. For outdoor use, Sika-Design translates certain silhouettes into aluminium and ArtFibre®. This distinction is essential: it makes it possible to enjoy the expression of historic models on a terrace without confusing the natural material with its reinterpretation adapted to outdoor conditions.
