How to choose chairs suitable for your dining table?

A dining room chair must match the table without sacrificing comfort or circulation. Its seat height, its width and the shape of its backrest directly influence the posture and the number of seats actually available around the tabletop.

Associate the height of the chair to that of the table

Measure the height of the tray and especially the free space under its belt. A seat generally around 45 to 48 cm fits many standard tables, but exact dimensions remain a priority. Allow enough legroom and check that armrests can fit under the table top if you want to store the chairs completely.

Provide the right number of places

Allow approximately 55 to 60 cm in width per person, more for a generous chair or one with armrests. Also check the width between the legs of the table: its external length does not always correspond to the usable space. Leave some space behind each chair so you can sit down without blocking a path.

Choose comfort suitable for meals

A slightly enveloping backrest and a padded seat improve comfort during prolonged meals. A more upright and compact chair is easy to handle on a daily basis. If body shapes vary, compare the depth, useful width and shape of the seat edge rather than relying solely on the thickness of the cushion.

Materials, style and care

Wood creates a warm ensemble and can be combined with a table in another finish. Metal provides a graphic silhouette, while fabric, velvet, leather and braided fibers modify the touch as well as the maintenance. In a home with children or animals, choose a covering and a color compatible with real uses.

Before validating your set

Check whether the chair is sold individually or in batches, then check the color, dimensions, assembly and delivery time of the chosen variant. Measure access points and provide protection adapted to the ground. It is not necessary to match the table and chairs exactly: consistent proportions are often enough to create a balanced set.
