Pictures and illustrations: bring a scene into your home

One evening, the living room is calm, light falls across the sofa and the opposite wall seems to be waiting for something. Not simply something to fill the space, but a presence that holds the eye and shifts the atmosphere. A landscape can open up an escape, an abstract composition can introduce energy and a portrait can create an unexpected sense of intimacy. Pictures and illustrations then become a way to inhabit the room visually.

Imagine how the wall will make you feel

Before considering dimensions, ask yourself what feeling you would like to experience every day. A photograph can bring a documentary or contemplative perspective; an animal subject creates a recognisable presence; themes related to people or mechanics tell other stories. In a relaxation area, a calm image may be more suitable than a highly dynamic scene. In a walkway, a bold visual can instead bring rhythm to a place that people often pass through quickly.

Observe the colours already present without seeking a perfect match. A shade echoed in small touches is enough to connect the artwork to the décor. Match the size to the furniture and viewing distance

Leave space around the frame or visual so that its outline remains perceptible. Arrange several images without losing coherence

A personal gallery can bring together abstraction, landscapes, photography or figures, provided a clear connection is maintained. This may come from a palette, theme, rhythm of formats or consistent spacing. Prepare the layout on the floor or with templates before installation. A central line creates stability, while a freer arrangement adds movement. Finally, keep one dominant image and allow the others to accompany it: the wall will gain depth without becoming a silent accumulation.
