Curtains and sheers: correcting a choice guided too quickly by colour

An appealing shade guarantees neither beautiful light nor a well-framed window. A common mistake is to decide from a visual sample, only to discover that the fabric darkens the room, lacks presence or hangs awkwardly. To make a more informed choice between curtains and sheers, begin with the room’s exposure, the proportions of the opening and the desired level of privacy.

Start with the desired effect on light

Ask yourself whether you want to soften the brightness, preserve an airy feel or create a more enveloping atmosphere. A sheer generally filters light delicately, while a visually denser curtain defines the window frame more strongly. However, the exact appearance and behaviour depend on the model. Observe the room at different times of day: bright morning exposure does not create the same needs as strong light late in the day.

Read the window rather than choosing at random

Measure the intended space and consider the desired drop. A length close to the floor visually elongates the wall; a more generous drop creates a relaxed look but requires a suitable environment. Width also affects the folds and sense of volume. Take into account the opening of the window panels, nearby furniture and walkways. As installation systems, dimensions and recommendations may differ, refer to the information on each product page.

Connect the colour to the room as a whole

Once the lighting effect and proportions have been defined, colour becomes a precise tool. It can extend the wall for calm continuity, subtly echo another textile or create a contrast that structures the space. With more than twenty years dedicated to sourcing and procurement for retailers and interior design projects alike, Flosia approaches this selection by combining visual consistency with practical use. Your curtains or sheers then cease to be a simple coloured backdrop: they give the window a rhythm suited to the room.
