How to choose a functional and well-proportioned TV unit?

The TV unit must support or accompany the screen while organizing the devices and cables. Its width, height and ventilation influence visual comfort as much as the integration of the multimedia corner into the living room.

Adapt the width to the screen

When the television rests on the piece of furniture, check the spacing of its feet and the depth of the base. A piece of furniture slightly wider than the screen generally creates a balanced whole. Always check the maximum load of the table.

Choose a comfortable viewing height

From the sofa, the center of the screen should remain close to the natural eye level. Consider the seat height and TV support. A very low cabinet is suitable for some large screens but can reduce storage volume.

Organize devices and ventilation

Measure boxes, consoles, amplifiers and other equipment. The niches must be deep enough and ventilated. Leave space around devices that heat up and avoid locking up equipment without following its ventilation instructions.

Locate the rear openings and the position of the sockets. Check that the cables can flow without being pinched. Doors hide the devices, but make sure that remote controls and ventilation remain compatible with the facades.

Check installation and delivery

Measure the wall, plinths, doors and delivery route. Check the assembly, the weight, possible fixing, the variant and the announced deadline. For a wall-mounted television, precisely coordinate the height of the furniture and that of the screen.
