How to choose an office chair adapted to your workstation?

An office chair must allow posture to be adjusted to the work surface and duration of use. Style matters, but adjustments, back support and desk compatibility are decisive for working comfortably.

Adjust the seat height correctly

Once seated, the feet should be able to rest flat and the knees remain in a natural position. Then adjust the height in relation to the keyboard or tray, without raising your shoulders excessively. If the desk is high and not adjustable, a footrest can complete the installation.

Compare backrest, lumbar support and mechanism

Check the height of the backrest, its shape and the presence of lumbar support. A tilting or synchronous mechanism allows you to change your posture during the day, provided that its tension is appropriate. For occasional use, a simpler construction may suffice; for several hours a day, focus on settings that are really useful.

Armrests, seat and freedom of movement

The armrests must support the forearms without preventing the chair from approaching the desk. Check their height and width as well as the seat depth. A swivel base makes movement easier, but requires enough space around the station.

Choose casters and covering

Check that the casters are suitable for the floor or provide suitable protection. Mesh, fabric, velvet and synthetic coverings do not offer the same ventilation or the same maintenance. Take into account the heat of the room, the frequency of use and the manufacturer's instructions.

Before assembly and delivery

Compare the minimum and maximum dimensions, recommended load, weight and items to be assembled. Measure the passage to the office and check the announced deadline. After assembly, tighten the fixings if the instructions provide for it and adjust the chair to the user rather than to a single theoretical posture.
