How to choose an ottoman according to its use in the living room?
Compact and versatile, the ottoman can be used as an extra seat, a footrest or a small support. Its height, firmness and covering, however, determine very different uses: you must therefore start from the expected function before choosing its shape.
Seat, footrest or decoration
To sit regularly, choose a stable structure and a comfortable height. As a footrest, bring its height closer to that of the sofa. A soft model is suitable for relaxation, while a rigid beanbag can sometimes accommodate a suitable tray.
Choose the right dimensions
Measure the space available when the beanbag is in use and when it needs to be stored. A round shape facilitates circulation, a square model aligns easily with a sofa and an elongated ottoman can accommodate several people occasionally.
Compare firmness and filling
A dense foam retains its shape better; a softer filling hugs the body but sometimes needs to be put back in place. Check the recommended load and the presence of an internal structure if the pouf must be used frequently as a seat.
Adapt the covering to daily life
Fabric, velvet, terry or leather do not react in the same way to friction and stains. A removable cover facilitates maintenance when provided. Take children, animals and direct exposure to the sun into account.
Check storage and delivery
Certain poufs conceal a useful box for throws or cushions. Check its opening and its interior volume. Then check the variant, dimensions, weight, possible assembly and the announced delivery time before ordering.
