How to choose a comfortable and well-proportioned living room armchair?

The armchair can complement a sofa, create a reading corner or become the focal point of the living room. To combine comfort and visual balance, compare the actual size, the posture offered by the seat and the maintenance constraints of the covering.

Define the main use

A reading chair requires good support for the back and possibly the armrests. An additional seat can favor a light silhouette. For prolonged daily use, give more importance to the depth, seat height and density of the padding.

Measure the complete footprint

Do not rely on the seat width alone: armrests, inclined backrest and legs increase the footprint. Maintain a comfortable path around the chair and check its orientation in relation to the coffee table, the light and other seats.

Compare posture

A low, deep seat promotes relaxation; a higher, firmer seat makes getting up easier. Check the back height, lumbar support and armrest position. A matching footstool can improve comfort without being suitable for all rooms.

Choose fabric, velvet or leather

Evaluate the feel, resistance to use, exposure to sunlight and cleaning methods. Light colors visually enlarge the space but reveal stains more. Always check the material and color of the chosen variant.

Check access and delivery

Measure doors, stairwells and corridor corners, taking into account the packaged armchair. Consult the weight, possible assembly of the feet and the announced deadline. Protect the floor during installation, especially with a metal base.
