How to choose a bar stool at the right height?

The comfort of a bar stool depends first of all on the distance between the seat and the underside of the tabletop. A model that is attractive but too high or too low quickly becomes uncomfortable. So measure the installation before comparing the backrest, the covering or the base.

Measure the counter or island

Record the height of the tray as well as the free space under its border. A gap of approximately 25 to 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the top is suitable for many uses, but the dimensions of the product remain the reference. Distinguish between kitchen island stools and taller models intended for real standing dining.

Allow width per person

Consider the width of the stool, its base and the space needed to pivot or move back. Models with armrests require more space. Also check the position of the counter legs so that each user has comfortable leg space.

Backrest, footrests and mechanisms

A padded back and seat are more suitable for extended meals. A model without a back fits more easily under the top. The footrest must be accessible without imposing a forced posture. For an adjustable or swivel stool, check the height range, base and mechanism.

Stability, materials and floor protection

A tall piece of furniture must offer stable support. Compare base width, weight and runners. Wood, metal, fabric, leather and woven fibers require different maintenance. On fragile ground, add compatible protection without compromising balance.

Before ordering several stools

Check whether the product is sold individually or in batches, then check the color, height, assembly and delivery time. Order based on exact measurements rather than a “bar” or “counter” designation, which can cover several heights depending on the manufacturer.
