A Lega pulley associated with weaving

Presented by Versmissen, this heddle pulley comes from the Lega community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dating from the mid-20th century, it is made from wood and includes textile thread. Its stylised form is enhanced by engravings and distinctive patterns, giving this functional object a strong sculptural presence.

This pulley was used in the weaving process on a loom. Its patina indicates repeated use and preserves traces of its original function. The object reflects both a craft tradition and the art of the Lega people. Brown in colour, it measures 5 x 7 x 19 cm. This unique piece is identified by the reference AAA1621.
