Dating from the 20th century, this sculpture is rooted in a tradition in which Ligie spoons were presented to deserving women in recognition of their culinary skills. They were regarded as symbols of beauty, fertility and prosperity. The double-spoon form therefore combines evocative meaning with a specific cultural dimension.
