This mask embodies one of the three “royal masks” of the Kuba, in the heart of Congo. Linked to the founding myth, 'Bwoom' is the rebel brother of 'Mwaash Amboy', the first king of the Kuba. The Kuba Bwoom masks, devoid of eye holes, impose a majestic presence with a broad nose, with dancers peering through the nostrils.
