Dan Deangle AAA50 mask
This Dan mask, originally from Côte d'Ivoire, is a fine example of African art and culture. It dates from the middle of the 20th century and measures 25.5 x 15.5 x 23.5 cm. The mask is carved from natural wood and represents a male spirit. The face is oval and harmonious, with big expressive eyes and a smiling mouth. The teeth are pointed, as was the custom among the Dan people. The mask is decorated with geometric patterns and animal figures. Geometric patterns are supposed to represent the forces of nature, while animal figures are supposed to represent the spirits of ancestors or deities.
