Female figures in a kneeling posture, like the one shown here, were traditionally placed on altars inside Dogon houses to receive sacrificial offerings. These figures played a ritual and sacred role in girls' education and during funeral ceremonies. This unique wooden sculpture originated in Mali in the middle of the 20th century. It measures 24x18.5x81.5
