Originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Ndop King AAA1228 sculpture dates from the mid-20th century. Presented by Versmissen, this black wood piece measures 16,5 x 15 x 50 cm. It depicts a male royal figure seated cross-legged on a square platform called a yiing and adorned with a trailing vine motif.

Ndop statues are idealised representations of the nyimi, the king of the Kuba kingdom. Here, the seated posture and decorated platform create a clearly structured vertical composition. The monochrome finish highlights the figure's volumes, while the plant motif on the support complements the royal depiction without distracting from its solemn bearing.
