Ndop King sculpture

A royal Ndop representation of the Kuba Bushoong

The Ndop King AAA181 sculpture depicts a king of the Kuba Bushoong tribe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dating from the mid-20th century, this wooden piece offered by Versmissen measures 29,5 x 29,5 x 105 cm. The sovereign is depicted seated with dignity, his legs crossed and his arms resting on his knees.

His peaceful face features half-closed eyes and distinctive features. An elaborate ornament crowns his head, while the body bears bracelets and scarification marks associated with nobility. The base is finely worked with geometric patterns typical of Kuba art. The wood's brown patina highlights the volumes and numerous sculptural details.
