Ndop King sculpture
This unique wooden sculpture shows a Ndop sculpture of the king of the Kuba Bushoong tribe from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This piece, which dates from the middle of the 20th century, measures 29.5x29.5x105 cm. The sculpture depicts a king sitting with dignity, legs crossed and arms resting on his lap, a pose that reflects his status and authority. The figure has a peaceful face with half-closed eyes and distinctive facial features. An intricate headdress adorns the head, and the body bears bracelets and scarification marks, signs of nobility. The base of the sculpture is also worked with fine geometric patterns, typical of Kuba art. The wood's warm brown patina highlights the sculptural details of this historic piece of art.
