Selected by Versmissen, the Luba Mboko AAA937 sculpture comes from the Luba culture of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Crafted from wood in the mid-20th century, it depicts a human figure with an expressive face and half-closed eyes. The figure holds a round vessel, or mortar, resting on its knees.

Geometric patterns are engraved on the vessel and on the base where the figure is seated. These details structure the composition and draw the eye towards the object held by the figure. This brown sculpture is associated with divination rituals. It measures 14,5 x 24,5 x 13 cm and bears the reference AAA937, clearly distinguishing it from other Luba Mboko sculptures.
