Offered by Versmissen, the Lega sculpture AAA1338 comes from the Lega community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This depiction of an ancestor, dating from the mid-20th century, is carved from wood and does not feature any weapons. The figure has a distinctive construction, with multiple legs arranged beneath a finely crafted face.

The mouth, shaped into a smile, gives the face a clearly perceptible joyful expression. The narrow eyes feature a distinctive slit reminiscent of the shape of cowrie shells used for decorative purposes by many communities.
