Dyonyeni AAA1247 sculpture

The Dyonyeni figurine, made of wood by the Bambara tribe of Mali, is a cultural artifact rich in symbolism. Associated with the southern Dyo and Kwore societies, this sculpture embodies the maternal figure, seen as a manifestation of Faro, the goddess of water and mother of all mankind among the Bambara. These figures are notable for their distinctive geometric characteristics, often illustrated by a prominent, conical, or rounded chest. This unique piece of 26x21x98 cm is dated from the middle of the 20th century.
