The Byeri sculpture presented by Versmissen is a wooden figure originating from Gabon. It is associated with the Fang people, a Bantu people of Central Africa whose geographical distribution fostered the emergence of several artistic styles. Made entirely of wood, it measures 16 x 15,5 x 48 cm and features a natural finish with beige tones.

Byeri figures were used as guardians of ancestral relics, which were often preserved in wooden containers. They could also be consulted to seek the help and protection of ancestors. Dating from the mid-20th century, this sculpture therefore combines a figurative form with a symbolic function closely linked to family memory.
