Attye figure sculpture with plugs

The Attye, among the peoples living near the lagoon, are renowned for their remarkably beautiful female statues that are used ritually to promote fertility. What particularly sets Attye statues apart are the scarification marks on the neck and abdomen, often created by inserting small wooden plugs rather than sculpting them in relief. This unique piece, made of natural wood, has dimensions of 22x16.5x75.5 cm. It embodies the uniqueness of the Attye culture and its aesthetic tradition, while symbolizing fertility in a unique way. This sculpture, originally from Côte d'Ivoire, dates from the middle of the 20th century.
