Look at the weave first. At The Rug Republic, the design emerges as much from the yarn and relief as from the colour. The brand continues the story of Sharda Exports, a family business founded in 1983 in Meerut, India, in a garage where six weavers worked. This starting point sheds light on a collection committed to hand weaving and hand tufting while exploring a wide variety of materials.

Texture leads the décor

A rug does more than define the living room: it changes its rhythm. The Pasadena, Callista, Begonia, Salford, Amaya and Soraya models introduce a textile surface at the foot of the sofa, beneath a table or in a bedroom. Crimble offers a round design, useful for breaking up the rectangular lines of furniture. The Curlew pouf moves this vocabulary from the floor to an occasional seat.

Reading each composition separately

The Rug Republic notably works with cotton, jute, hemp, viscose, denim and, on certain products, PET yarn made from recycled materials, but none of these components applies to the entire catalogue. In the Flosia selection, the Worgan denim name clearly identifies a variation in which this material contributes to the rug’s character. Other models must be chosen based on their own product page, without automatically attributing a recycled or natural composition or outdoor suitability to them; any animal-derived material or ambiguous composition must be excluded from the Flosia selection.

This precision is important because material experimentation is precisely what makes the company distinctive. Over time, Sharda has developed handwoven, hand-tufted and flatwoven rugs, as well as designs featuring repurposed textiles. The technique does not always seek to conceal the fibre’s origin: strips, shades and visual irregularities can become part of the pattern.
